Data-Lead Africa is recruiting Data Enumerators for an agricultural study across Kaduna, Kano, Kebbi, Plateau, Cross River, Ondo and Oyo states. The short-term assignment will last up to 11 working days. Applications close on September 14, 2026.

Data-Lead Africa Opens Applications for Data Enumerators

Data-Lead Africa has opened its recruitment portal for qualified individuals interested in working as Data Enumerators for an agricultural research project in Nigeria.

Applicants with SSCE, Diploma, NCE, HND, BSc, BEd, BA, MSc, PhD or equivalent qualifications may submit applications. However, selection will be based on the specific requirements of the position, relevant experience and performance during the assessment and training.

The short-term field assignment will take place in September 2026 and will last for up to 11 working days.

Available Locations

Data Enumerators are required in the following states:

  • Cross River

  • Kaduna

  • Kano

  • Kebbi

  • Ondo

  • Oyo

  • Plateau

Applicants are advised to apply for the state where they currently live or where they have a strong understanding of the local communities, languages, agricultural activities and travel routes.

Job Responsibilities

Selected candidates will be responsible for:

  • Attending and completing the mandatory enumerator training.

  • Conducting face-to-face interviews with farmers and other agricultural value-chain participants.

  • Collecting data using smartphones or tablets.

  • Using digital data-collection platforms such as KoboToolbox, ODK or Survey Solutions.

  • Capturing GPS coordinates and supporting farm-area measurements when required.

  • Transcribing and translating interviews into English.

  • Reviewing questionnaires to ensure accuracy and completeness.

  • Protecting respondents’ privacy and maintaining confidentiality.

  • Submitting completed data within the required timeframe.

  • Reporting field challenges to supervisors promptly.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants should possess the following:

  • A relevant qualification in Agricultural Science, Economics, Statistics, Data Science, Social Sciences, Development Studies or a related discipline.

  • Previous experience in surveys, interviews, field research or data collection.

  • Knowledge of KoboToolbox, ODK, Survey Solutions or similar mobile data-collection tools.

  • The ability to communicate effectively in English and at least one language commonly spoken in the selected state.

  • The ability to transcribe and translate interviews into English.

  • Willingness to travel to rural and remote communities.

  • Availability throughout the training and fieldwork period.

  • Strong communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills.

  • Honesty, patience, accuracy and respect for respondents.

Preferred Experience

Preference may be given to applicants with experience in:

  • Interviewing farmers or rural households.

  • Agricultural, livelihood or rural-development research.

  • Quantitative or qualitative data collection.

  • Working with NGOs, research organisations or government programmes.

  • Using GPS-enabled tools for farm mapping.

  • Working with women, young people, cooperatives, pastoralists and underserved communities.

Items Required from Selected Candidates

Successful applicants will need:

  • A functional Android smartphone.

  • A reliable power bank.

  • A valid means of identification.

  • Suitable clothing and footwear for rural field visits.

  • The ability to charge and safely maintain field equipment.
