Programme Overview

The NextGen Program is a prestigious internship initiative designed to bridge theory and real-world application. It equips young Africans with multidisciplinary knowledge, practical skills, and research capabilities to tackle complex governance challenges in resource sectors across Africa.

This program aims to build a pipeline of pan-African leaders committed to sustainable and inclusive resource governance, especially in energy and extractives.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

• Be young Africans residing in Africa, aged 32 or below
• Demonstrate passion for sustainable development of Africa’s natural resources

Preferred academic backgrounds include:

• Economics (especially Energy Economics)
• Engineering (Petroleum, Electrical, etc.)
• Oil & Gas Management
• Public Policy
• Law
• Political Economy
• Development Studies / Finance
• Project Management
• Communications
• Statistics / Mathematics

Required Skills & Competencies

• Strong writing skills with clarity and logical structure
• Familiarity with analytical tools (R, Stata, EViews, NVivo, Atlas.ti)
• Ability to multitask and meet deadlines
• Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills
• Creative thinking and problem-solving ability
• Strong ownership, responsibility, and leadership
