The Federal Government has launched a landmark Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) program aimed at reducing youth unemployment and building a skilled workforce. Announced by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, the initiative includes a structured 3-year technical track, as well as 6-month and 12-month short-term options. Graduates will earn certifications from NABTEB and sector-specific bodies.

Trainees will receive ₦22,500 monthly stipends and starter packs, while their artisan mentors will receive ₦30,000 per student. The program covers trades like carpentry, plumbing, ICT, and electrical work. It will be implemented through federal/state institutions and accredited private centers.

Attendance and performance will be tracked via NIN and geofencing, and payments will be managed through the NELFUND platform. The initiative also offers soft loans and entrepreneurship support via the Bank of Industry.

Minister Suwaiba Said Ahmad described TVET as vital for national progress, while other officials stressed its role in job creation and economic transformation.
