Malaria Consortium is recruiting a skilled and experienced State Campaigns, External Communications, and Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) Advisor to join their team in Borno State, Nigeria. This is a full-time, temporary position offering a competitive salary and the chance to contribute to impactful public health communication initiatives.

About the Role:
The Advisor will lead the development and implementation of all communications-related programs for Malaria Consortium Nigeria (MCN). This includes public health communications, external relations, knowledge management, advocacy, and ensuring visibility of Malaria Consortium’s work among stakeholders and partners.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Oversight and Influence (20%)

  • Oversee public health communication (PHC), advocacy, and external communication efforts in Nigeria
  • Provide timely technical advice to country and project teams
  • Participate in global PHC cluster activities to share learning and results
  • Ensure effective organizational positioning and knowledge sharing

Strategic Design and Management (65%)

  • Develop, review, and coordinate implementation of communication strategies
  • Provide technical leadership in communication components of new projects
  • Support project managers in timely implementation of communication plans
  • Oversee production of evidence-based, audience-centered PHC materials and messages
  • Ensure quality assurance, compliance with donor branding, and value for money
  • Document and disseminate communication experiences and outputs
  • Monitor and evaluate communication activities, adjusting strategies as needed

External Engagement and Partnerships (15%)

  • Support communication efforts with Federal Ministry of Health, NMEP, and partners
  • Act as key media liaison and public relations contact
  • Contribute to funding opportunity identification and proposal development

Person Specification:

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Master’s degree or significant experience in public health strategic communication, public relations, or media with focus on Nigeria/Africa
  • At least 7 years in managerial roles related to public health communications or marketing in the development sector
  • Experience communicating about malaria or other communicable diseases
  • Strong skills in advocacy, social mobilization, behaviour change communication, and strategic planning
  • Excellent communication, media engagement, and team leadership skills

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with public health or malaria control programs in Africa/Nigeria
  • Experience in multimedia production and marketing approaches
  • Experience in training and capacity building in multicultural contexts
  • Knowledge of donors, health sector networks, and ICT applications in communication

Work-Based Skills:

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong analytical and communication skills in English and French
  • High standards of professionalism and representational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
