Press Statement

The Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu has directed the State Head of Civil Service (HOS), Alhaji Safiyanu Garba-Bena to seat down with labour leaders and design a modality towards coming-up with new minimum wage in the state.

He gave the directives on Wednesday while delivering his speech at the 2024 May Day (Workers' Day) celebration held at Haliru Abdu Stadium in Birnin Kebbi.

The governor assured the workers that his administration had been and would continue to be worker-friendly, adding that he would ensure that workers enjoy throughout his stay as the Executive Governor of the state.

"I am the only governor in Nigeria who came from core civil service and a labour leader. Therefore, I want to make sure that I give workers a beautiful and befitting direction.

"It is my desire to leave a legacy, so that I will be remembered for, even after leaving office," he said.

Gov. Idris observed that workers' day "is" a remembrance day for the workers, a day to reflect and a day to recall the past and plan for the future.

In his speech, the Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the state, Comrade Murtala Usman commended Gov. Idris for the payment of all civil servants' leave grants in the state, payment of ooutstanding gratuity to retired workers as well as prompt payment of monthly pension to retirees.

He praised the governor for being the only governor across the nation to settle all leave grants, saying that the state government had already paid Kebbi workers 2024 annual leave grant.

The chairman also lauded the governor for the developmental projects across the state, especially the ongoing completion of multi-million Naira ultramodern state secretariat to give the state workers befitting offices accommodation.

The NLC used the occasion to honour the governor with a prestigious award, as "the best governor that settled 2024 workers' annual leave grant across the country."
