GOOD NEWS: Federal Government to Distribute Fertilizer to 128,930 Farmers – Here’s How to Register

Are you a farmer? The Federal Government has launched a special program to support Nigerian farmers by distributing fertilizer. All farmers are urged to register quickly to benefit from this initiative.

Through the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) and the Renewed Hope Farm Input Support Program (FISP), the government plans to distribute a total of 515,720 bags of fertilizer (Urea and NPK) to 128,930 smallholder farmers nationwide.

What is the National Digital Farmers Registry (NDFR)?

The NDFR is a national digital platform designed to collect farmers’ data. Its goals are to:

  • Unite all farmers in a single national database
  • Ensure direct delivery of fertilizer and pesticides to eligible farmers
  • Eliminate fraud and fake beneficiaries
  • Provide accurate data for government and investors to improve agriculture

How to Benefit from the Fertilizer Support

While there is no special portal for direct fertilizer requests, farmers can increase their chances of selection by following these steps:

  • Register on the NDFR platform:
This is the national digital farmers’ database developed with IFAD and Heifer International.

  • Register on the National Fertilizer Management Platform (NFMP):
This platform facilitates easy access to government fertilizer.

  • Contact your State Agricultural Development Project (ADP) office:
ADP offices verify farmers and distribute inputs. Make sure your details are updated.

  • Join recognized farmer cooperatives:
Being part of government-recognized groups improves your chances.

  • Stay in touch with local agricultural officers:
They provide updates on government programs and support.

Why This Registration Matters

Access to affordable and quality fertilizer remains a major challenge for farmers. This government support aims to:

  • Increase crop yields
  • Reduce food prices nationwide
  • Lower farmers’ input costs
  • Ensure food security in Nigeria
