Npc Chairman Attends Benue State Stakeholders Summit On 2023 Census

As part of the efforts to create awareness and galvanize support for the 2023 Population and Housing Census, the Chairman of the National Population Commission, Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra and his entourage attended the Benue State Stakeholders Summit on the 2023 Census with the theme “Getting the People Involved” held at the Banquet Hall of Benue State Government House, Makurdi today – 25:01:2023.

The NPC Chairman while delivering his speech at the summit stated that there is no going back on the conduct of the 2023 Population and Housing Census.

He assured that everything has been put in place to ensure the success of the exercise and urged all stakeholders, civil society organizations, development partners and governments at all levels to give maximum support to the exercise to ensure its success.

Hon. Kwarra commended President Muhammadu Buhari who despite the challenges facing the country was committed to having the country conduct a successful population census.

He also commended Governor Samuel Ortom for supporting the exercise, saying his commitment clearly showed that the Governor understood that demographic data was vital to the development of a state, “that is why I urge Benue people to present themselves to be counted.”

Governor Samuel Ortom who declared the Summit open said the meeting availed traditional rulers and stakeholders of the necessary information that would help them support the exercise better.

He also urged the people of Benue State to deemphasize politics and support the conduct of the census exercise to ensure its success.

Also speaking, the NPC Federal Commissioner for Benue State, Barr. Mrs. Patricia Iyanya Kupchi said that the Commission is set to deliver the best population census to Nigerians.

She noted that the conduct of the population census is a huge exercise that needs all stakeholders to join hands to ensure its success. On our part, we will conduct an accurate, reliable and acceptable census in Benue state. And to achieve that the Commission is carrying out digital, transparent and scientific preparation for the census.

Other Stakeholders that spoke at the summit promised to work closely with the NPC to ensure the success of the coming census.

Governor Samuel Ortom was decorated as a Patron of the 2023 Census by the NPC Chairman at the Summit.

The Summit also had in attendance the Deputy Governor of Benue State, His Excellency Engr. Benson Abounu; the Honourable Speaker of Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Titus Uba; the Chief Judge of Benue State, Justice Aondover Kaka'an; the Tor Tiv, HRM Ochiviri Prof. James Ayatse, the Och’Idoma, HRM Dr. Pst. John Elaigwu Odogbo, the State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Akpen Leva, representative of the Local Government Chairmen among other stakeholders.
